Spanish Diggings

Spanish Diggings is a 10 by 40-mile area northeast of Glendo Reservoir near the junction of the Platte, Goshen and Niborara County lines, where for thousands of years native peoples quarried quartzite that then was traded throughout much of North America. In the 1880s, early cowboys mistakenly thought the sites had been mined by Spanish conquistadors; hence the name.
