Wyoming’s first woman legislator and Heart Mountain revisited
This month, we feature an activist and an important interview.
A female groundbreaker
The first woman to serve in the Wyoming legislature, Mary Godat Bellamy laid the groundwork for future generations of women in politics. Inspired by the first generation of Wyoming’s suffragists—such as her childhood babysitter Esther Morris—Bellamy devoted her life to women’s rights and reform movements. Read more about Bellamy’s remarkable life in Jennifer Helton’s article, “Mary Godat Bellamy, Wyoming's First Woman Legislator.”
A compelling oral history
This month the Wyoming Historical Society presents a conversation with Aura Sundra Newlin at the Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation as part of its ongoing series, Women of Wyoming: Then & Now. The video premieres Dec. 6, 2024, and will continue to be available after today.
